Here we go! The first little sketch in my Nyokai series, which is Neko (cat) + Yokai (Japanese monsters of traditional folklore). Here, two little kittens caught in the rain are rescued by a couple of Karakasa who were out for a stroll. And while his girlfriend keeps them dry, the boy tries to ease the younger kitten's fears.
Wanna learn more about traditional Yokai?
I suggest the obakemono project: [link]

Yokai are just so much more fun! It's only been in the last year that I have really become enamored with Mizuki Shigeru and Gegege no Kitarou.
-- Hank and Dean: He started it! Dr. Venture: No, I started it years ago in a moment of passion! And I'll end it the same way right here in front of Brock, H.E.L.P.eR., and God!
I see then I wish I saw Gegege no Kitarou. I just know the characters and basic storyline... But I collect Kaidan stories about yokai and yurei and obakemono in general.

Well , there's Tall Tales
( Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill )
and other stories but you're right , other than that and kids / holiday stories ( Tooth Fairy , Easter Bunny , and Santa ) ..for the most part we don't really have our own thing...The Pheonix legend comes from several places , as does the unicorn and a few other creatures / stories.
It's really sad.
